Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 1 cups - flour
- 1/2 cups - butter
- 2 tablespoons - water
- 1/2 cups - butter
- 1 cups - water
- 1 teaspoons - almond extract
- 1 cups - flour
- 3 - eggs
- 1/2 cups - confectioners' sugar
- 2 tablespoons - soft butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons - vanilla
- 1 tablespoons - to 2 Tbsp. water
- - food coloring optional
- - chopped nuts for topping
Directions:
For Pastry:
Cut butter into flour. Sprinkle with water and mix with fork. Pat thinly on ungreased baking sheet or pizza pan.
For Puff:
Mix second amount of butter and water; bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Add flavoring extract.
Beat in flour, stirring quickly to prevent lumps. When smooth, add one egg at a time, beating well after each until smooth. Spread evenly over pastry.
Bake about 60 minutes at 350 degrees F or until topping is nicely browned (puff has a tendency to shrink while cooling, leaving a custard-like portion in the center).
Combine confectioners' sugar, butter, vanilla, water and food coloring (if desired), and spread on top. Sprinkle with nuts.
Cut to serve.
