Picnic Cake

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cups - dates chopped
  2. 1 1/2 cups - boiling water
  3. 1 teaspoons - baking soda
  4. 1 cups - sugar
  5. 1/2 teaspoons - salt
  6. 3/4 cups - shortening
  7. 2 - beaten eggs
  8. 1 2/3 cups - sifted flour
  9. 1 teaspoons - cinnamon
  10. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  11. 1 packages - chocolate chips (milk chocolate)
  12. 1 cups - brown sugar
  13. 1/2 cups - chopped nuts

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl combine dates, boiling water and baking soda. Let cool.

Combine sugar, salt, shortening and eggs; add to mixing bowl.

Then combine flour, cinnamon and vanilla; add to bowl and mix well.

Pour into well-greased and floured 9-x-13-inch pan.

Mix together chocolate chips, brown sugar and chopped nuts and sprinkle over batter.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.
